Surgical techniques for telemetry studies

Long-term recordings of Blood Pressure, ECG and Sympathetic Nerve Activity in conscious animals

Surgical Training

Telemetry Research (a Millar Instruments subsidiary), a leader in the development and use of telemetry systems, and the University of Auckland invite you to attend a "hands-on" telemetry surgical training course. The week long training covers all aspects of sterile surgical, anesthesia, telemetry implantation and recovery techniques for success.

What

The training week is divided into two parts: The first three days (Monday to Wednesday) will focus on measurement of arterial pressure and ECG. The final two days (Thursday & Friday) will cover techniques for long-term recordings of sympathetic nerve activity (SNA) in rats.

Content:

  • Surgical preparation
  • Surgical equipment
  • Anesthetic
  • Implantation of BP catheter (abdominal aorta)
  • ECG electrode placement
  • Post-op care and recovery
  • Data acquisition and analysis of telemetry signals
  • Experimental design, limitations, troubleshooting
  • SNA electrode preparation
  • Introduction to recording equipment
  • Improving the longevity of recordings

Who

The course will provide each attendee with theoretical and practical experiences in the implantation, recovery and data analysis under the supervision by experienced instructors. This master class is intended for postdoctoral researchers or senior researchers with experience in cardiovascular/neurophysiology small animal surgery.

Course enrollment will be strictly limited to ensure maximum hands-on experience and personal tutoring. If you are interested in the course or for further information, complete the online registration form.

Fees

BP & ECG only: US$1500 per person

SNA: Additional US$1000 per person

Price includes all course materials, lunches and a delegate’s dinner (Tuesday night). Transport, accommodation and any other expenses are the responsibility of the attendees.
