Rat PV Loop Catheters
Millar’s Mikro-Tip® ultraminiature pressure-volume (PV) loop catheters have revolutionized the possibilities for cardiovascular research in small animals. They are capable of measuring both left ventricular pressure and volume simultaneously from the intact, beating hearts of mice and rats.
Our catheters for small animal research may be used in either closed-chest or open-chest surgical procedures, and in isolated working heart studies. We offer the smallest pressure-volume catheter product line for use in mouse and rat research studies.
These catheters are reusable - non-sterile and combine pressure sensors and electrodes for simultaneous high-fidelity pressure and volume measurements, enabling minimally invasive, continuous, intracardiac pressure-volume analysis.

SPR-869
The SPR-869 rat pressure-volume catheter is designed to measure simultaneous left or right ventricular pressure and volume in rats. Built to the highest quality standards, the catheter combines a proven Mikro-Tip® pressure sensor with four electrodes to collect real-time pressure-volume data.
Due to its smaller electrode spacing, SPR-869 is becoming a more popular option as cardiovascular researchers continue to focus more on the right ventricle. With a pressure sensor diameter of 2F and 1.1F along the catheter body, this model offers the ideal combination of durability and ease of use for hemodynamic studies utilizing rats 350 g and smaller.
The SPR-869 provides a 12.5 cm usable catheter length and a 6 mm electrode spacing for optimized ventricular volume measurement in smaller rats. For studies utilizing larger rats, consider the SPR-838 pressure-volume catheter.
For complete hemodynamic analysis, use the SPR-869 mouse pressure-volume catheter with the MPVS Duo™ or MPVS Duo™ Single Segment system, a modular PowerLab data acquisition system with LabChart analysis software.

The SPR-838 is Millar’s most popular catheter for performing pressure-volume studies in rats. With a pressure sensor diameter of 2F and 1.1F along the catheter body, this model offers the ideal combination of durability and ease of use for hemodynamic studies utilizing rats 350 g and larger.
The SPR-838 provides a 12.5 cm usable catheter length and a 9 mm electrode spacing for optimized ventricular volume measurement in standard-sized rats. For smaller animals and/or right ventricular studies, consider the SPR-869 pressure-volume catheter.
For complete hemodynamic analysis, use the SPR-838 mouse pressure-volume catheter with the MPVS Duo™ or MPVS Duo™ Single Segment system, a modular PowerLab data acquisition system with LabChart analysis software.
