How Our Sensors are Shaping the Future of Medicine

Intracranial Pressures

Intracranial pressure (ICP) monitoring has become a vital tool in traumatic brain injury (TBI) treatment and research. In 1990, Millar partnered with Codman, now part of Integra LifeSciences, to develop the Microsensor® ICP Transducer, one of the first MEMS-based solutions for measuring intracranial pressure. Designed to deliver real-time pressure data directly at the source, this catheter-based system enables accurate monitoring in parenchymal, subdural or intraventricular locations, supporting faster clinical response in TBI and neuro care.

Cardiovascular Pressures

Millar’s Mikro-Cath® Pressure Catheter provides high-fidelity measurements of left and right ventricular pressures, arterial pressure, and cardiac function. With accurate dP/dt and continuous waveform quality, it supports advanced clinical applications like heart failure evaluation, exercise studies and cardiac resynchronization therapy, giving clinicians the insight needed for real-time decision-making.

Airway Pressures

Mikro-Cath uses pressure sensor technology to record precise measurements within the airway to advance discovery in respiratory physiology. The high-fidelity airway pressure data recorded with Mikro-Cath supports understanding of respiratory physiology during obstructive sleep apnea and other apneic events, enabling clinicians to confidently measure airway pressures in patients.

Compartment Pressures

Millar’s Mikro‑Cath enables continuous pressure monitoring within muscle compartments, supporting accurate assessment of conditions like acute compartment syndrome (ACS) and chronic exertional compartment syndromes (CECS). Its reliable, real‑time measurements provide clinicians with essential data for informed diagnostic and treatment decisions.
