Millar’s Mikro-Tip® ultraminiature PV loop catheters have revolutionized the possibilities for cardiovascular research in small animals. These ultraminiature catheters are capable of measuring both left ventricular pressure and volume simultaneously from the intact, beating hearts of mice and rats. Only Millar offers the world's smallest 1F (1/3mm) pressure-volume catheter.

Our pressure-volume catheters for small animal research are reusable - non-sterile and may be used in either closed-chest or open-chest surgical procedures, and in isolated working heart studies. Our PVR-1045 is the smallest PV catheter tip size of 1F (1/3mm), which gives researchers a powerful tool in the characterization of cardiovascular function by allowing access to smaller animals.

Mouse Pressure-Volume Loop Catheters

SPR-853

The SPR-853 mouse pressure-volume catheter is a model designed for users who prefer an open chest approach either in vivo or in a working heart model. It is optimized with a taper just behind the most proximal electrode that increases the catheter body size to prevent blood loss following catheter insertion into the heart wall.

The SPR-853 has a pressure sensor diameter of 1.4F and a measurement electrode spacing of 4 mm for use in standard sized mice. The total catheter length is 50 cm with a working insertable length of 6.5 mm.

SPR-866

The SPR-866 is a selectable segment mouse pressure-volume catheter for use with both mice and rats. This catheter is only compatible with the MPVS-300 or MPVS-400 pressure-volume units. Built to the highest quality standards, the catheter combines a proven Mikro-Tip® pressure sensor with six electrodes to enable collection of real-time pressure-volume data in small or larger mice.

With a pressure sensor diameter of 1.4F, a 3.5 cm usable catheter length, and a 4.0 mm or 6.0 mm selectable electrode spacing, the SPR-866 offers versatility to optimize the ventricular volume measurement in your mice.

SPR-848

The SPR-848 dual pressure mouse pressure-volume catheter provides a simultaneous measure of aortic pressure and left ventricular pressure and volume in mice via a single catheter placed via an apical approach. Built to the highest quality standards, the catheter combines two proven Mikro-Tip® pressure sensors with four electrodes to collect real-time pressure-volume data.

The aortic pressure sensor is located at the catheter tip while the ventricular pressure sensor is located between the four volume measurement electrodes spaced 6.25 mm from the aortic pressure sensor. This catheter is ideal for adding a measurement of total peripheral resistance to your PV loop studies.

With a pressure sensor diameter of 1.4F and 0.8F along the catheter body, this model offers increased measurement capability in hemodynamic studies utilizing normal sized mice. The SPR-848 provides a 3.3 cm working lengths and a 4.5 mm electrode spacing for optimized ventricular volume measurement in standard-sized mice.

SPR-847

The SPR-847 rat pressure-volume catheter is a variation of the market leading SPR-838 rat pressure catheter-volume catheter. Built to the highest quality standards, the catheter combines a proven Mikro-Tip® pressure sensor with four electrodes to collect real-time pressure-volume data in a smaller catheter body than the SPR-838.

The SPR-847 is preferred by some researchers who like the narrow 1.4F pressure sensor profile. This model provides a 12.5 cm usable catheter length and a 9 mm electrode spacing for optimized ventricular volume measurement in standard-sized rats. For smaller animals and/or right ventricular studies, consider the SPR-869 pressure-volume catheter.

PVR-1030

The PVR-1030 mouse pressure-volume catheter provides optimal data for simultaneously measuring left ventricular pressure and volume at the source. The high frequency response enhances your ability to collect the highest quality data possible, streamlining your path to publication.

Only Millar can offer the world’s smallest 1F pressure-volume catheter. The small catheter diameter minimizes the obstruction of blood flow in the vessel and allows for improved surgical access to the right ventricle. This enables access to smaller, younger mice for earlier detection of disease or treatment.

Cardiovascular researchers have successfully used the 1F pressure-volume catheter for improved catheterization in aortic banding models, where minimizing catheter size is key to successful data collection.

The PVR-1030 provides a 3.25 cm usable catheter length and a 3.0 mm electrode spacing for optimized ventricular volume measurement in smaller mice and right ventricle measurements. For standard-sized animals, consider the PVR-1045 pressure-volume catheter.

SPR-864

The SPR-864 dual pressure mouse pressure-volume catheter provides a simultaneous measure of aortic pressure and left ventricular pressure and volume in mice via a single catheter placed via the carotid artery. The catheter combines two proven Mikro-Tip® pressure sensors with four electrodes to collect real-time pressure-volume data.

The left ventricular pressure sensor is located between the four volume measurement electrodes at the tip of the catheter while the second aortic pressure sensor is located 7 mm from the LV sensor. This catheter is ideal for adding a measurement of total peripheral resistance to your PV loop studies.

With a pressure sensor diameter of 1.4F and 0.8F along the catheter body, this model offers increased measurement capability in hemodynamic studies utilizing mice.
